The Scientific Council of the National Archives has been operating since February 2021.
In accordance with Clause 3.1 of the Minutes of the Scientific Council meeting dated 3 March 2021, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed with L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University on 23 June 2021.
On 19 October 2021, the Scientific Laboratory project office was established jointly with the Institute of State History to promote research on the period of Kazakhstan’s Independence. A Memorandum of Cooperation was also signed with the Institute of State History, and a work plan for the Scientific Laboratory was developed and implemented.
In addition, on 6 December 2021, the “History of Kazakhstan” Study Room was opened in cooperation with L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, where research and academic activities are carried out with young historians and scholars.
In 2022, within the framework of the Comprehensive Action Plan for 2020–2025 to implement the “Archive–2025” Project, research was conducted in the archives and libraries of the Russian Federation, Germany, the Czech Republic, Türkiye, Hungary, Tatarstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The project aims to enrich the National Archival Fund with documents relating to the history of Kazakhstan preserved in domestic and foreign archives, museums, libraries, and research centers, and to introduce these materials into scholarly circulation. The inventory of documents accepted for permanent state preservation was published on the official website of the National Archives: www.ulttykarhiv.kz.
Also, as part of the implementation of the “Archive–2025” Project, nine publications were issued:
- The Priceless Legacy of Aqseleu (Aqseleudiñ Asyl Mūrasy);
- From Akmola to Nur-Sultan (photo album);
- Documentary Treasures Returned to the Homeland, Volumes I–IV;
- History of the Capital of Kazakhstan;
- A Legacy Preserved in the Archives (photo album);
- Archive–2025: New Sources in the History of the Nation.
These publications contribute to expanding access to newly discovered archival materials and promoting research on the history and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan.
